Neiley began her artistic journey working in watercolor. In 2001, she established a gallery space in Hallowell, Maine, featuring two prominent windows. Watercolors are sensitive to direct sunlight, so she transitioned to acrylic on canvas for the purpose of the window displays. The response was overwhelmingly positive. This shift eventually led to her discovery of oil painting, which has since become her primary medium for over 25 years.
Her work frequently features trees, flowers, and animals—subjects she finds both beautiful and inspiring—but ultimately, it is color that drives her creativity. Many of her pieces are created with a specific color palette in mind and her subjects are curiously simplified with almost abstract elements.
A significant part of Neiley’s career includes commissioned work. Whether it's a beloved pet portrait or a meaningful scene, she is honored by every opportunity to create something personal and lasting for her clients.
Today, Neiley divides her time between her home studio and her public workspace at Neiley Gallery & Studio in Freeport, Maine, where visitors are welcome to stop in, observe her painting process, ask questions, and engage in conversations about art. A larger portion of her work is displayed Café This Way in Bar Harbor, Maine, which exclusively features her paintings in a rotating solo exhibition of approximately 30 pieces. The show is installed each May and remains on view through mid-October.
