My brother... Ben. An artist and a teacher.
It is wonderful to share Ben's art and his story because he is very special.
We should start by saying that Ben is now 47 years old and happy.
Ben's story began when he was nearly 5 years old and tragically, while he was playing in our front yard with our cousin, the two boys were struck by a drunk driver. Severely brain injured as a result of the accident, he is physically and mentally challenged in many ways. He is on an enormous amount of meds to manage seizures, has limited ability to communicate due to the removal of the speech area of his brain and he is in a wheelchair. Mentally, he remains a 5 year old as if time has stood still. It was a miracle he survived. His strength is immeasurable and his light shines bright. |
Now, 43 years later, his heart is filled with love. Ben has grown to be a caring loving man. His presence lights up the world of those around him and his gentle and playful soul is visible through his beautiful green eyes and warm smile.
Ben is a true blessing. He touches our lives daily. He has not let the tragedy that has impacted his life define who he is as a man and the happiness and love he shares is an example for us all to live by. Bens pureness and genuine, loving nature reminds us of how fortunate we are to have him in our life. He spends every Monday painting, "working" with me in the studio. Ben's art reminds us of that 5 year old boy, but it is so much more. It's the art of a courageous, loving man who gives of himself daily to make those around him smile. He teaches us to be our best self regardless of what hardships we encounter. We are so proud to share his work, "Little pieces of Ben" with you. It is an ongoing display in the gallery. Sales of his art will help support him and his art career. |
